Our Story
The seed of RBH first sprouted in 2012 at New Rainbow House. At that time, we were experimenting with cultural and family education in the Brooklyn community, and we gradually began to see many realities: many Chinese parents were working out of state to make a living, struggling with language barriers and a lack of resources, while their children lacked a stable home education environment and natural cultural immersion. With these observations and a sense of care, founding members of the 2012 New Rainbow House officially launched and established RBH in 2020, envisioning it as a “bridge of connection.”
Where did the bridge begin? It started with the lively “RBH Lunar New Year Gala” in 2018. That was the first time we, under the name RBH, brought families, schools, and community groups together: children found the spotlight on stage, and parents drew closer through shared laughter. The following year, in 2019, we moved the event outdoors and organized three consecutive children’s fashion shows—letting kids wear their favorite outfits, walk the runway with confidence, and learn to express themselves boldly amid applause and the soft wind.
Since then, RBH has almost every year hosted the “Chinese Heritage Kids Fashion Show,” allowing children to experience the beauty of tradition through play. We also established the annual “Midsummer Night’s Dream” community dinner, where families gather around the table, sharing kindness and redistributing resources to more households. Meanwhile, we extended the “bridge” even further: family trips ranged from nearby farm picking and zoo outings to Niagara Falls and Disney World in Florida. Over the years, we’ve served nearly a thousand families. Along the way, children learned how to engage with nature, cooperate with peers, and build both cultural and self-identity through repeated sharing and reflection.
After formally establishing RBH in 2020, we continued to deepen our services: cultural programs, arts education, and academic support centers became interconnected. During the day, children filled academic gaps in the classroom; after school, they unleashed creativity on stage and in exhibitions; on weekends, they broadened their horizons in the community and beyond. We’ve always believed: when a child is consistently seen, accompanied, and encouraged, their confidence grows, and their family is illuminated; and when countless families are lit up, together they form a stronger, more resilient community.
This is RBH—a journey that began with a gala, a runway, a dinner table, and a trip, weaving love and culture into pathways that help the next generation grow into their most grounded and confident selves.
